Years have gone by since the start of Reaching Cultures; formerly known as Reaching Cambodia due to the fact that the foundation was specialised in helping Cambodian communities.
In 2015 upon learning that one of Reaching Cultures’ founders, Denise was nominated and winner for the JCI Malta, TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young Person) Award in Contribution to Children, World Peace &/or Human Rights in 2015, we were filled with excitement and are still very proud of this achievement.
Having the founder nominated, for all of us at Reaching Cultures, was definitely an honour. Knowing someone out of Reaching Cultures nominated her for her will and passion, was even more significant, as it means that outsiders started seeing her in the same perspective as we do.
On Friday 23rd October 2015, Denise was awarded winner in her category. Being herself the mastermind behind all the work, projects and plans and being acknowledged for her work was surely rewarding though we know nothing rewards her than the smiles of the children calling her their big sister, it is always honourable to receive such an acknowledgement.
2015, kept on being a great year for us at Reaching Cultures. On Thursday 10th December , the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, organised the Volunteer Awards 2015 where Reaching Cambodia’s Chairperson Silvan Farrugia was honoured with a Commendation Award, presented by H.E. President of Malta, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and the Hon. Minister Helena Dalli, Minister for Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties accompanied by Mr. Nathan Farrugia, Chairperson of MCVS.
The award was given in honour of the difference the foundation has made to lives of children in Cambodia.
